About us

Based in Chorley Lancashire, we have over 40 members ranging from 8 to 60 years of age.

As well as Chorley, we cover the Standish, Wigan, Skelmersdale and surrounding districts.

Our philosophy is to enjoy ourselves in a safe and sensible manner.
Fancy diving on wrecks, amongst coral reefs, diving with seals or snorkelling with dolphins?
You can, safely, with the correct training and enthusiasm!

We were created in 1968 and have a wealth of diving experience worldwide. Our Branch is no.304 of the British Sub-Aqua Club which is the governing body for the sport of underwater swimming in the British Isles and the largest diving club in the world.

The UK has a diverse marine environment that rivals some of the best in the world with more than 7,500 miles of coastline to explore, stunning marine life and mysterious wrecks. Couple that with a wide variety of inland waterways, lakes and quarries and we have a real divers’ paradise right on our own doorstep.

We are extremely fortunate in having a large number of nationally qualified BSAC Instructors within our Club to aid your progress. Learn to scuba dive with us and you will receive some of the best scuba diving training around, leading to an internationally recognised BSAC qualification.

Not only are we are able to train you up through the BSAC diving grades and can also carry out 'cross over' courses from PADI, SSI, SAA.

Windermere Wrecks - The Bill Shakespeare Project

On October 23rd 1971 the powerboat racer and British and World water speed record holder, Bill Shakespeare, was killed on Windermere while practising for the Windermere Grand prix. He set the record for outboard powered boats of 1500-2000 cc in 1970 at a speed of 104.06 mph and was one of the top powerboat racers in the UK. He was also the owner and designer of Shakespeare Boats.

Kevin Shannon has spent several years using side scan sonar in an attempt to locate the Avon catamaran. He will be visiting us to discuss his findings and a way forward for diving wrecks that he has identified in Windermere. This will be a project run by Mick Cook, but this event introduces us to Kevin and his efforts to locate the wreck of the powerboat in which Bill Shakespeare died.
